Biography MILITIA is a Belgian industrial percussion band, formed in 1989 as a duo, but soon the band grew and now it is a 6 member unit. Inspired by the eco-anarchism, the musicians play a variety of mostly self made percussion instruments, empty oil barels and gas containers, a full metal radiator, metal plates and tubes suspended by chains on standards, conventional drums, tools and machines (cement mixer...) and wind instruments (didgeridoo, trumpet, zuna...) During MILITIA live performances, only the percussion and wind instruments are being played on stage, mixed with loops and atmospheric electronic music recorded on CD or minidisk and controlled and played from the sound board in the concert hall. A film is being projected on a large screen during the entire show more info can be found on: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Militia_(band)
The band was first discovered by the British noise act CON-DOM (Control and Domination), the solo project of Mike Dando, who drew MILITIA to the attention of the German record label Praxis Dr. Bearmann. This label didn't hesitate to release the first MILITIA album, a 3 LP box in a large fold out cover, "New European Order". It received very nice and positive comments in the music press and was soon sold out! A series of recordings followed: Familiedrama/Pain: 7 inch vinyl Kingdom of our Lord: mini CD Nature Revealed: 2 CD in wooden hand painted box Beside all of this, MILITIA was (and still is) active and present on a number of compilation albums and split CD's, such as "Scorched Earth Policy" with Con-Dom,released by the Italian Old Europe Café label. Praxis Dr. Bearmann stopped its activities after the death of one of the founding members of the label and Tactical Recordings (also German) took over. Their collaboration resulted in 3 new releases: The Black Flag Hoisted: 2 CD with flag and poster in fold out cover The Eco-Anarchic Manifesto: book with live CD (also on Malignant Records, USA) Everything is One: CD in large fold out cover After a few years Tactical Recordings stopped releasing CD's and MILITIA was contacted by one of the most important and biggest labels in the field of industrial and gothic music, the Swedish label Cold Meat Industry. This label agreed to release all future MILITIA CD's and this on a scale of at least 1500 copies each! At this moment, MILITIA are working on their new album: "Power Propaganda Production". If you are interested in a more complete list of the MILITIA works, we advise you to have a look at: www.discogs.com/artist/Militia+(2) The band can be seen on a regular basis on stage and at festivals, such as: Xphonozon (Germany) Clapo (France) Hoeuma (England) Termite (Engeland) Maschinenfest (Germany) Belgian Independent Music Festival Deadly Actions (France/Belgium) and more... There is also the side-project MekanOrganiK, which will release their first CD in 2009, also with Cold Meat Industry: "How to Extract Sunlight from Cucumbers" see limbolink MekanOrganiK for info: e-mail: frank@militia.be mobile phone: 0032(0)478568684
